Forms of Sodium Chloride

NaCl

Sodium chloride is the most common salt, the common table salt used for the seasoning of food. The images above are grains of table salt from a salt shaker, taken at 50x and 200x. Those images show the tendency to form a cubic structure, a symmetry borne out in the atomic level structure of the salt crystals. It occurs commonly in the mineral form, halite, also called rocksalt.
