Fresnel DiffractionFraunhofer diffraction deals with the limiting cases where the source of light and the screen on which the pattern is observed are effectively at infinite distances from the aperture causing the diffraction. Fresnel diffraction refers to the general case where those restrictions are relaxed. This makes it much more complex mathematically. Some cases can be treated in a reasonable empirical and graphical manner to explain some observed phenomena. |
