Coenzyme-Q

Coenzyme Q is well defined as an electron courier in the electron transport chain in mitochondria. Coenzyme Q (CoQ) is present in all cells and membranes. It is quite mobile and able to diffuse through the inner mitochondrial membrane as an electron carrier from Complex I and Complex II. It delivers electrons to cytochrome-C for final transport to O2.

The Q refers to the quinone group (1,4-benzoquinone) and in humans the most common form has 10 isoprenyl chemical subunits leading to the description CoQ10. It is sometimes sold as a dietary supplement and is an ingredient in some cosmetics.
