Spurrite

Ca5(SiO4)2(CO3)

This sample of spurrite is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Spurrite is a silicate mineral of calcium which also has a carbonate group. It has the composition Ca5(SiO4)2(CO3). This sample is about 7x7 cm.

The mineral is named after geologist Josiah Edward Spurr (1870-1950). Spurr Crater is also named after him.
