Heliodor

Be3Al2(SiO3)6

Heliodor is a variety of the mineral beryl which has the chemical composition Be3Al2(SiO3)6 .

These samples are displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

This heliodor sample is formed with microcline and quartz. It is from Mursinka, Neyva River, Ekaterinburg, Urals, Russia. It is about 16 cm across.

The heliodor gems above left are 30.7 and 56.5 carats and are from Tajikistan. The heliodor cylindrical crystal scales to be just over 3 cm in length.

The heliodor beryl sample above right is from Volodarsk Volynskiy, Zhitomir, Ukraine. It is about 5x15 cm in size.

These heliodor gems are 133.5 and 46.4 carats and are from Madagascar.

These heliodor gems are 89.4 and 216 carats and are from Minas Gerais, Brazil.
