Whiteite

Ca(Fe,Mn)Mg2Al2(PO4)4(OH)2.8H2O

This sample of Whiteite is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Whiteite refers to a phosphate mineral of multiple metal ions. The term Whiteite is currently used in the sense of a Whiteite group. This particular sample contains calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium and aluminum. Its composition is given as Ca(Fe,Mn)Mg2Al2(PO4)4(OH)2.8H2O. The sample at left is about 5x7 cm and is from Rapid Creek, Yukon Territory, Canada.
