Valley View from Going-to-the-Sun Road

This is a view south down the valley through which the McDonald Creek runs. It was taken from the Going-to-the-Sun Road just past the loop. You can see the road below which we had just come up, along the McDonald Creek. Also, high on the left portion of the picture, you can see the road which snakes around the steep wall leading to Logan Pass. August 20, 1982.

View up McDonald Creek to the West

This view almost into the sun shows McDonald Creek clearly and the road which runs along it from the west entrance to the Park. It was taken from the Going-to-the-Sun Road above the loop. August 20, 1982.

The Road Hangs on the Side of the Mountain

This shows the nature of the Going-to-the-Sun Road around the "Garden Wall" section. The road is literally carved out as a niche in the wall. There are lots of wild tales about the building of this road. You can see a tiny white speck which is a car going around the road, and just behind the car is a bridge where a stream comes under the road.
