Freeze and Snow Event in Pearl River
January 21, 2025
Again we had been warned for a week or so by the weather services that there was a major freeze and snow event coming across the southeast. In Atlanta we were told on Sunday that the temperature would drop below freezing in the afternoon and not rise to the freezing temperature again until Wednesday afternoon. The temperature reached to about 13 degrees. We planned to stay at home on those days.
The snow came in to Pearl River on Monday night, and on Tuesday morning at 8am Jordan had Jackson out in the snow in front of the Radio Road house. It was Jackson's first snow experience and she said he enjoyed it and was very playful.
We were calling this an upside-down snow storm since the snow band was the south part of the front that moved through. We were right at the top of the snow band, getting just snow flurries whereas just south of I-20 about 5 miles south of us they were getting an inch or two of snow. North Georgia got no snow at all.
This is an amazing view of the Radio Road house with snow coming down. It's not one that we are likely to see again soon. About 8:30 am.
| Jordan makes a snowball in the side yard. But we understood that it was hard to get the snowballs to stick together because the snow was dry and very cold. We were impressed with Jordan's knit boggin cap - she has become an expert at knitting. |
A picture for history. It is unlikely that you will get such a snowy picture of the garage again soon.
Jordan manages to make a snow angel before 9am. Another bid for history. How long will it be before you can make another snow angel in Pearl River?
Darla walks in the deepening snow by their new fence. It's amazing that the snow is coming down harder at 12:30.
| Jeff did a nice job of refinishing their big diesel tank. It looks quite impressive in the snow. |
By 1pm the continued snowfall has produced a beautiful white carpet over the side yard.
Around 1pm the snowfall was amazing. It's not what you would expect in south Louisiana!
At 2pm Darla and Jordan have formed an impressive snowman.
| By 5pm Jeff's car has collected this much snow! |
Now that is a fine snow photograph of Jeff and Darla! It looks like they are standing in8-10 inches of snow! This is at about 5pm and it has apparently been snowing most of the day.
A unique opportunity for a portrait in the snow in south Louisiana!
It's always good to make the measurement. So they had at least 5 inches of snow. But the portrait above shows a place where it appears deeper.
Elyse also had the opportunity to experience the snow as it occurred in Baton Rouge. Her classes at LSU were canceled. She and friends enjoyed a snowball fight on one of the fields. This is about 1pm on January 21.
We were glad to see the children in Awana for the new year |
