Awanas Unpack the Backpacks for the Distribution to Schools

July 17, 2024

We took the Awanas to the foyer of the church to unpack the new backpacks in preparation for the day we fill them and distribute them to needy children in the local schools.

Billy Ridgway and Lorraine Shaw work with the boys and girls to open the boxes and unwrap the new backpacks. We also opened them in preparation for filling them the next Sunday by the congregation.

Elaine Ridgway joins the Awana boys and girls in extracting the colorful backpacks from their wrapping in the boxes.

Tony Mode and Laura Mode are also part of the unpacking team. The boys and girls worked hard and got the unpacking done quickly.

The boys and girls were proud to carry the packs into the sanctuary for placement.

The new backpacks were placed on the steps at the front of the sanctuary. We would pray over them before the congregation members would carry them to be filled.

These two sisters worked together and seemed to enjoy the process.

With 250 backpacks to put in place, the boys and girls kept adding to the rows.

The hard-working group of Awana students and leaders kept adding to the rows along the steps.

The boys and girls worked enthusiastically to finish placing all the backpacks on the steps.

The students seemed pleased at what had been accomplished. Becky Ridgway took advantage of this great opportunity for a lesson on serving God and others.

Having just worked hard in a project of service, it was inspiring to hear their comments about examples of ways they could be of service in their family and school.
